Wushu Weekly #2: Celebrating Inktober with our Artists!

Hi everyone!

It’s been a little while since our last Wushu Weekly. We’re seeking to rectify that today with another edition today, this time focusing on some of the incredible artwork from our team members. It’s Inktober this month! That means artists all around the world grab their pencils, pens, styluses (erm…styli?) and everything else they can use to further develop and improve their drawing skills each day for the month of October.

It just so happens we have some amazingly talented artists of our own here at the studio who are participating. They’ve been doodling on their own illustrations since the start and were gracious enough to share their work for everyone’s enjoyment. Let’s take a look at some!

Lucy Anna Lowe – Lead Artist

For day one’s “Ring” concept (see Figure A), Lucy opted for a little Alice in Wonderland nostalgia with the smoke rings of our old friend The Caterpillar. “Mindless” (B) is…Wizard of Oz’s Scarecrow? Oh yeah, we could see it. “It was only a matter of time before Futurama showed up” [in “Freeze”] (C), Lucy said. Poor Phillip.

Adam Du Buisson – Concept Artist

Adam is doing things a bit differently, choosing instead to use the Comic Ink brush set via the Procreate tool. It makes for some striking artwork that we think you’ll agree allows his style to really shine! In his rendition of “Ring” (A), a demonic sorcerer opens a ring to the undead.

One of the sweetest looking creature designs we’ve seen graces the prompt for “Bait” (B), and an ice queen chills for “Freeze” (C). “Build” (D) speaks for itself and “Husky” (E) subverts expectations. “Too many people have been drawing husky dogs!”, Adam said. That might be the creepiest looking scarecrow we’ve seen in “Frail” (F) too.

And here’s what the team has been playing over the course of the last few weeks!

  • The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening
  • Shelter
  • Slay the Spire
  • Lumines Remastered
  • Hearthstone
  • Little Nightmares
  • Moonlighter
  • Celeste
  • GRID
  • Dishonored 2
  • Concrete Genie
  • The Last of Us Remastered
